- Epidemiologiske studier kan avdekke tilsynelatende nye legemiddeleffekter som det kan være fristende å benytte klinisk. Slike studier er imidlertid ikke egnet til å påvise terapeutiske effekter av legemidler
- I pasient-kontroll-studier har man vist at pasienter som brukte statiner, hadde en lavere frekvens av frakturer. Imidlertid kan dette skyldes helt andre forhold enn statinbruken
- Før det ev. foreligger positive resultater fra kontrollerte kliniske utprøvninger bør ikke statiner brukes på indikasjonen osteoporose
