Behandling med antiepileptika hos psykisk utviklingshemmede og multi- handikappede pasienter

- Pasienter med hjerneskade kan ha lavere terskel for sentralnervøse bivirkninger av antiepileptika enn andre
- For hyppig bruk av diazepam rektalt til anfallskupering kan føre pasienten inn i en ond sirkel med toleranse, abstinensreaksjoner og serier av anfall
- Samtidig behandling med antipsykotika kan virke anfallsutløsende, men problemet er vanligvis ikke stort ved forsiktig opptrapping, lave doser og valg av riktig medikament
